Top 5 Books For World Book Day - Young Kids And Adults

Young kids love books that trigger their imagination. This is why we have selected the top 5 books that will take them on an amazing journey while also teaching them valuable life lessons. Hereโ€™s our list of the top 5 books that we think your little bookworms will enjoy:

1. I Am Extraordinary - By Stephen Curry

Itโ€™s the first day of school for Zoe, a deaf teenager who dreams of joining the school football team, but she is uncomfortable wearing her hearing aids. With the help of her new friends, she soon realises that she is extraordinary and embarks on a journey to see how amazing she is.

I Am Extraordinary teaches children to look within themselves and gain self-acceptance and self-confidence to achieve goals.

2. Richard Scarryโ€™s Cars And Trucks And Things That Go - By Richard Scarry

This hilarious tale introduces readers to a variety of wild and crazy Busytown vehicles. This 50th-anniversary gift set is perfect for Richard Scary fans as it comes with a removable Cars and Trucks poster with exclusive sketches.

3. Being Home - By Traci Sorell

Today is an exhilarating day for a young Cherokee girl as she prepares for the journey of a lifetime. She bids farewell to her swing, her house and the town she has called home her entire life. As her mother drives, the girl paints the ever-changing view outside the window.

She is looking forward to her destination where she will eat the feast her family has prepared for them, play in the river with her siblings and settle into her new home. This book has warm impressive art and content and little ones will enjoy reading it.

4. The Perfect Place - by Matt de la Peรฑa

Lucas goes to a good school in a perfect neighbourhood but his family life is far from perfect. His fatherโ€™s old work car often stalls in front of the school, thereโ€™s no electricity when he gets home and he doesn’t even have time to show his mom his report (which he got perfect results) before she goes to her evening job.

That night, Lucas dreams of a strange light that he follows down the fire escape, down the alley and away from his neighbourhood to where perfect people lived. Everything in this neighbourhood seemed to be more beautiful than he could imagine. Could it be possible that things aren’t as they seem?

This book highlights the beauty that is found in humble homes even when they are not rich materially but rich in love.

5. Piper Chen Sings - By Phillipa Soo And Maris Pasquale Doran

A motivating story about a girl who gets rid of her anxiety and gains confidence when faced with the challenge of singing a solo performance at her school concert.

This book is inspired by the childhood experiences of award-winning actress Phillipa Soo, who originated the role of Eliza in Hamilton.

How To Celebrate World Book Day - School Edition

Books for World Book Day: Book library filled with a variety of books.

World Book Day will be celebrated soon and it would be nice to know some ways in which you can take part in the celebrations. Letโ€™s explore 5 ways in which teachers can help make this day fun for their students.

  1. You can dress up as your favourite character from your favourite book and have a costume parade to show off your costumes. To get more ideas on what characters you can dress up as, please read the Unique World Book Day Costumes blog and enjoy some great DIY costume ideas you can use.
  2. Host a readathon where you can raise money for charities and proceeds go towards buying books for children who cannot afford it. Award gifts and prizes for the students for encouragement.
  3. You can have a competition where children guess how many books are in the school library.
  4. Have the children design a giant book cover for the classroom and have them decorate it and write little short stories and paste them on the cover to decorate the classroom.
  5. Have the children share a story for 10 minutes a day. Maybe a book they recently read and how they felt about it.

Why Is World Book Day Important?

While dressing up for World Book Day is fun and all, thatโ€™s not the only reason why it’s celebrated. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to encourage students to be different and develop their passion for reading.

This day also provides an opportunity for children who do not have books at home to own one of their very own. A day solely dedicated to encouraging young ones to read will help them discover a lot of things that they have never encountered before.

Just as an article from World Book Day stated: โ€˜Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a childโ€™s future successโ€ฆโ€™ we do believe that starting them off early will be of great benefit later on in their lives.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab a book for yourself or others and โ€˜letโ€™s start a culture of reading for success and beyondโ€™ - LDV Bookworm, Nontozakhe Raphadu.
